AEHL’s Players of the Month – January 2025

After the conclusion of January of the 2024-25 Alberta Elite Hockey League season, the AEHL is proud to announce the following winners of Player of the Month for all eight divisions for the month of January. The league is also proud to announce this month’s recipient of the Humanitarian of the Month Award, Rylan Swallow.

Humanitarian of the Month

Rylan SwallowFoothills Bisons U15 AA D

Rylan and his teammates demonstrated great appreciation and empathy towards the senior community in Nanton during the holiday season. They collected Christmas gifts, including scarves, gloves, and winter gear, to distribute at the long-term care facility in Nanton. Rylan and his teammates spent an evening giving out the gifts and visiting with the elders in what was a truly heartfelt gesture. They even went as far as visiting each room of those unable to join the festivities, bringing them Christmas cheer. This act was genuinely heartwarming and greatly appreciated. 


Players of the Month 

U18 

AAA – Hayden Schollar – Calgary NorthstarsF  (5GP, 6G, 5A, 11P)

Calgary Northstars forward Hayden Schollar had an outstanding month of January, demonstrating exceptional leadership both on and off the ice. His performance was nothing short of phenomenal, highlighted by back-to-back hat tricks and a game-winning goal that propelled the Northstars team to key victories. Hayden’s relentless work ethic and dedication to the team’s success have set him apart. His consistency and commitment inspire teammates and elevate the team’s overall performance.  

AA North Metro – Raphael Colin KC ColtsF  (4GP, 2G, 3A, 5P)

Raphael led the Colts in scoring in the month of January and has been a consistent performer for the team every game. He sets himself apart at both ends of the rink with his work ethic, strong will, and competitive level. 

AA North Rural – Garrett Risler Camrose VikingsD (7GP, 4G, 8A, 12P)

Garrett demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership, leading all defensemen in points in January. Known for his effectiveness on the power play, he recorded four multi-point games, including an impressive five-point performance in one game. His contributions have elevated his game and inspired his teammates, reinforcing his status as a strong leader on the ice. 

AA South – Kolter GansMedicine Hat HoundsG  (4GP, 1.25GAA, .960SV%)

Kolter played a pivotal role in securing key victories for his team. His impressive numbers highlight the effectiveness of the goaltending duo for the Hounds, who have collectively contributed to an outstanding 8-1-1 record over their last 10 games. As the team approaches the playoffs, Kolter’s performance stands as a testament to his commitment and ability to elevate his game when it matters most. 

AA Calgary – Jayden Nunweiler CRAA Gold – F  (5GP, 4A, 4P)

Jayden has demonstrated remarkable skills this season, averaging over a point per game and contributing an impressive five game-winning goal. His quiet leadership style and strong work ethic have made him respected among his teammates. Jayden exemplifies discipline and respect on and off the ice, making him a vital asset to his team. Notably, he showcased his talent in January by maintaining a four-game point streak, solidifying his position as a standout player this season. 


U17/16 

AAA Rhett Lloyd Sherwood Park SquiresF (7GP, 2G, 10A, 12P)

Rhett has consistently demonstrated an outstanding work ethic, arriving at the arena each day prepared to excel. His impressive performance includes two goals and ten assists over the last seven games, with a standout showing of six points in just five games during the CIHA Winter Classic. Rhett’s dedication and skill have propelled his own game and inspired his teammates, making him a true leader among the Squires this season. 

AA North Metro – Desmond Campbell – CAC United Cycle – F (7GP, 9G, 6A, 15P)

During a perfect January, Desmond Campbell was the driving force behind the Canadian’s offensive success, leading them to an outstanding 7-0 record. His impact was undeniable, consistently stepping up in key moments and delivering dominant performances throughout the month. Over the seven-game stretch, Desmond showcased his elite scoring touch and playmaking ability, tallying an impressive nine goals and six assists. Whether finishing plays with precision or creating opportunities for his teammates, he was a catalyst in every game, setting the tone for teammates and leading by example. Desmond’s consistency, skill, and leadership were instrumental in our flawless month, making him a deserving candidate for AEHL Player of the Month. 

AA North RuralMason MercierLakeland PanthersD (8GP, 4G, 11A, 15P)

Nathan showcased his skills with an impressive three-point performance, highlighting his offensive capabilities. Known for being defensively responsible, he consistently logs significant minutes on the ice playing in all situations. Nathan’s exceptional work ethic in games and practices makes him a coach’s dream, contributing to his team’s success. 

AA SouthLincoln SchultzOkotoks OilersF (8GP, 3G, 3A, 6P)

Throughout the year, Lincoln has demonstrated remarkable consistency in scoring while embracing a leadership role among his teammates. He proactively shares his shooting and scoring tips during practices, contributing to the overall skill development of the team. Always the first to arrive for drills, Lincoln actively enhances team systems, fostering better passing and line chemistry. His positive attitude serves as a beacon of motivation, inspiring his teammates during games and challenging practices. 

AA Calgary Asher TapperNWCAA BronksF (9GP, 7G, 6A, 13P)

Asher has showcased remarkable versatility over the past month, excelling in crucial game situations, including even-strength, power play, and penalty kills. His impressive offensive contributions have complemented his relentless work ethic and competitive spirit, making him a key player for the Bronks. With his positive attitude and commitment to continuous improvement, Asher elevates his game and fosters camaraderie among his teammates, exemplifying how hard work and determination can lead to success.  


U15 

AAA Roan GreschukSt. Albert SabresD (4GP, 2G, 2A, 4P)

In January, Roan showcased his exceptional skills and dedication while playing nine games for the Sabers, including four league games and five at the John Reid tournament. His commitment to hard work and exemplary leadership qualities truly stood out, earning him the John Reid Award for the player who best embodies these traits. Roan’s consistent effort in every game and practice inspires his teammates and sets a high standard within the league. His passion for improvement makes him a standout player, deserving recognition as Player of the Month. 

AA North Metro Memphis WilsonLeduc Roughnecks G (3GP, 2.33GAA, .905SV%)

Memphis has emerged as a standout player this month, securing a record of 2-0-1. Now boasting an overall impressive season record of 8-1-2, Memphis has excelled in his performance as a first-year goalie and showcased an exceptional attitude. His positivity and unwavering support for his teammates underline his commitment to the team’s success. 

AA North Rural Grayson BeckerWainwright Polar Kings – G (2GP, 2.50GAA, .939SV%, 1A)

Grayson played a pivotal role in the Polar Kings’ success in January. With a perfect record of 2-0, Grayson demonstrated his talent by making an impressive 77 saves on 82 shots, resulting in a stellar .939 save percentage. His performances included a remarkable 37 saves and an assist against Camrose, followed by 40 saves in a standout effort against Southside. Despite being an undersized goalie, Grayson’s agility and lightning-fast footwork allow him to excel, helping propel the Polar Kings to a three-game winning streak and earning him recognition as a top player of the month. 

AA South Nolan SassFoothills BisonsF (10GP, 9G, 5A, 14P)

This month, Nolan has emerged as a top player, demonstrating growth and resilience. After a slow start to the year that saw him struggle with confidence, he has turned things around by fully committing to the program and elevating his performance. His hard work and increased competition have resulted in impressive production on the ice, making him a reliable presence for his teammates. With consistent effort shift after shift, Nolan sets expectations for himself and inspires those around him, earning him the recognition as Player of the Month. 

AA Calgary Arlo ThiessenCBHA Hawks – F (6GP, 14G, 5A, 19P)

Throughout January, Arlo demonstrated dedication and hard work and excelled in critical moments, racking up three separate games with four goals each. Under his guidance, his team achieved an impressive record of 5-0-1. Arlo’s commitment to personal and professional growth is inspiring and sets a remarkable example for his peers in the league. His impact on the game has undeniably showcased exceptional skill and leadership on and off the ice. 


U13 

AAA Brody MeunierSt. Albert EaglesF (8GP, 17G, 13A, 30P)

Brody has distinguished himself as a league standout this January, amassing an impressive 30 points throughout the month. His commitment to offence and defence is evident in his relentless matchups against top competition, showcasing a level of passion and work ethic that sets him apart. As a first-year U13 player, Brody is leading the league in scoring and competing alongside some of the most talented young athletes. His exceptional skills and determination make him a remarkable talent. 

AA North Metro Ty ClarkeSt. Albert StarsG (3GP, 0.33GAA, .977SV%)

Ty Clarke’s exceptional performance solidified his position as a leader for the Stars in January. With an impressive .977 save percentage and two shutouts across three starts, his sharp play allowed teammates to perform with renewed confidence. Clarke’s tireless dedication throughout the season and collaboration with his goalie partner, coaches, and teammates culminated in this remarkable stretch of excellence. His contributions extended beyond just stopping, as he notched his first assist of the year, further highlighting his all-around impact on the ice. 

AA North Rural Josh AndersonFort McMurray JOBF (6GP, 4G, 2A, 6P)

This month, Josh showcased his invaluable contributions to the team’s scoring efforts. In a season where offence has been a challenge for the Oil Barons, he has proven to be a reliable force, consistently helping the team find the back of the net. His ability to deliver when it matters most elevates his performance and inspires his teammates. 

AA South Max Stang Red Deer WescoD (6GP, 1G, 2A, 3P)

In January, Max emerged as a breakout player for the Wesco Chiefs, solidifying his reputation as one of the top defensemen in the league. His exceptional defensive skills make him a frustrating competitor to play against. His powerful shot from the point has also significantly boosted the Chiefs’ power play effectiveness. Max’s relentless work ethic and commitment to improvement are evident as he frequently engages with coaches to refine his game. Beyond his skills, he exemplifies what being a great teammate means, providing positivity on the bench and during off-ice team activities. His contributions this month have undoubtedly made a lasting impact on his team’s success. 

AA Calgary Cole LeonardCBHA Wranglers F (4GP, 9G, 5A, 14P)

As captain, Cole has demonstrated exceptional leadership on and off the ice, guiding his team to the top of the league standings and clinching the championship during Esso Minor Hockey Week in the U13AA Division. His impressive 200-foot game, strong work ethic, and positive attitude set a remarkable example for his teammates. Beyond his performance, Cole fosters a welcoming atmosphere that encourages engagement and growth within the team, showcasing his genuine care and respect for others. His dedication and sportsmanship genuinely embody the spirit of our league.
